Biogas, which can be produced from a range of waste products and feedstocks such as biomass, manure, sewage, municipal waste, green waste and energy crops in anaerobic digesters, can be used for cooking, space heating, water heating, electricity production or as a fuel for machines or vehicles. Biogas is a renewable energy, suitable for rural areas, especially when families also have animal waste and where there is a need for gas cooking, space heating and lighting etc.
Generallty the biogas from anaerobic fermentation comprises of 60-70% methane 30-40% CO2, and is then stored in the gas holder for burning, the byproduct (slurry) is a clean organic fertilizer that potentially increases agricultural productivity. |
