Standby power means the electric power consumed by electronic appliances or devices while they are in a standby mode. Although the wasted standby power of individual device is very small, the sum of all devices is significant. A study in 2000 showed that standby power accounted for around 10% of household power-consumption in America. There are a few simple methods to reduce standby power. The easiest way is to unplug the unused devices. Another alternative is to use particularly designed standby savers or timing switches to automatically turn off standby power to devices when going into standby mode.
